Beijing Enia is a project developed across two sites, one on the Changpu River in the centre of Beijing and the other in the Xingjian Uygur Autonomous Region of Kashgar. In Beijing the Changpu River was revealed in 2002 after 40 years of concealment at the east end of Tiananmen Rostrum. The Yongding River has water shortages and floods in the past. From a government plan from 2002, initiatives were taken to protect the Historic and Cultural City of Beijing. This plan is specifically to protect Beijing's water system, to harness and protect waters relevant to the city's history and eco-environment. ENIAtype investigations led to the development of a project on the Changpu river network.
